We’re not just a pretty shop you know – we do some rather fabulous tasting events too, and you can be part of the fun!
The events we have in our shop are really good – I’m not just saying that, they are, ask anyone. We choose one of our lovely suppliers or reps each month, and they come along and present a selection of wines, beers or whiskies for you to sample and enjoy. What’s not to like? You will usually have at least 8 samples, and whilst you sip and ponder, our speaker will talk to you about it in a very interesting and non-pompous manner about all sorts of things – stories about the producers, how wine/beer/whisky is made, the history behind the product and the areas of production. Fascinating and fun!
Our evenings are aimed at all levels of wine knowledge – from the absolute beginner to the experienced quaffer – no one is left out and no one is left uninterested. We feel that you can’t get better value for money, and our customers seem to agree with us!
As if all that wasn’t enough we can also help you raise money for your favourite charity with a fundraising wine tasting event!
If you can find a willing bunch of people to pay £10 – £15 per head to come and sample some wine and listen to me talk about it, then we can help you! We will charge you a nominal fee for our services to cover the cost of the wine, usually £2-£4 per head, and the rest will go to your favourite good cause. We help raise thousands of pounds every year for many local charities, and we’d love to help yours too! Give us a call and let’s get fundraising!
It’s been a while since we paid homage to La Belle France, so I’m pulling out the big guns, with Andrew Hawes from specialist French importers Thorman Hunt coming along to drive your tastebuds wild. A must for Francophiles, this French Winetasting will be a night to remember!
We had a fabulous evening last year in the Hospice’s marquee as we sampled some delicious gins with a selection of nibbles. We have been invited back to raise the roof again with more gin, more nibbles and more fun!
Come along and help us support a really great cause while you actually enjoy some gins and tonic
An unashamed celebration of the world of the Fruit Beer. Yes ok there are the Belgian fruit beers, but there’s way more than that these days – a veritable Greengrocers full of flavour awaits us on this voyage across the fruit rainbow. Get in touch with your soft, squishy side & enjoy an evening of something completely different…. Don’t fruit the Beer? Let’s see shall we?
A what now? Well if you haven’t already discovered the delights of a walkround wine tasting, let me explain…. We hire the large hall in Industry, 1 Overleigh Road here in Handbridge, and invite a dozen or so account managers from our wide list of wine and spirit importers to bring a selection of 8 – 10 products each from their portfolio.
Each rep will have a table each to pour their wines, and you will have 3 joy filled hours to sample as many of them as you like. A great opportunity to find new favourites and to pick the brains of our friendly and knowledgeable reps.
There will also be some lovely food available to buy to keep your strength up.
I’m sorry, did you say Swedish Whisky?? Yup, Mackmyra have been making whisky for 20 years, the first whisky distillery in Sweden. They use Swedish grain, Swedish oak and the purest Swedish spring water. The result is something really quite special & well worth taking a couple of hours to savour. Our host is Brand Ambassador Alex Johnson, a knowledgable and throughly interesting speaker will take us through the range, and I’m sure you will find yourself loving Mackmyra as much as we do.
Guest speaker Scott Jackson from UK distributors & importers James Clay is visiting again, this time with the very latest beers in the UK Craft Beer scene. The craft beer market is changing really quickly, so Scott will be showcasing his choice of the latest trading beers and breweries this Spring.
Portugal – it’s not just Port and Mateus Rose you know! There are hundreds of delicious wines from over a dozen regions to discover, and Max Driscoll from Specialist Portuguese importers Raymond Reynolds will be our enthusiastic guide! Ray Raynolds are celebrating 30 years in the trade this year, so safe to say they know their stuff, and if you’re looking for some inspiration in your wine rack, this is the event for you! Let’s walk the road less travelled, it’ll be fun!!
Yep, not content with chocolate & wine, we reckon that there’s some pretty good rums which will pair brilliantly with Bala Croman’s delicious handmade chocolates from The Chocolate Cellar based in Port Sunlight….
Bala will be joined by Helen Wainwright from specialist spirit importer Marussia Beverages who will be providing the ‘rums & chums’ (I think we may pop in a cheeky whisky and a liqueur or two as well), and will be giving us the benefit of her years in the spirits industry. Rest assured this will be a fantastic evening with a gorgeous treat for the tastebuds!!
