The Couly family have been growing grapes in Chinon for nearly a century and replanted their finest vineyard, the Clos de l’Écho, shortly after WWII. It lies opposite the town’s impressive 12th century fortress. ‘Les Gravières’ is from the sandy and gravel soils, the grapes are de-stemmed and vinified on the skins for 15 days with indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged in stainless steel tank and bottled the following spring.
This is a lovely wine from the Loire Valley made from the Cabernet Franc grape. Light purple in colour with a bright fruity nose of red berries and green pepper. Despite the lack of oak ageing, there is a good bit of complexity in the mouth. Light, fruity, fresh and charming.
