Founded in 1842, the small Port house of Niepoort is now run by 5th generation brother and sister Dirk and Verena Niepoort. It’s easy to forget that it was only a few years ago that Niepoort was only sought out by a small band of faithful followers, as stock of remarkable, artisanal wines built up in the cramped old Niepoort lodge in Rua Serpa Pinto in Vila Nova de Gaia.
A fairly rare style of port, the 10 years old white is characterised by skin contact and oxidative maturation.
It is made in the same way as aged tawnies, with food treading in lagares, and slow aging in pipes in the Niepoort lodges.
Golden in colour, exhibits a complex aroma of dried fruits dominated by orange peel and dried figs, as well as walnuts and roasted almonds.
A floral touch completes the aroma.
On the palate it is very fine and balanced, with a vibrant acidity balancing it´s sweet character, interacting with the fortifying spirit to perfection and giving the wine a superb structure.
Grape Varieties – Côdega, Rabigato, Viosinho, Arinto, Gouveio and others.
