Wakefield is a third generation family wine business founded in 1969 by Bill Taylor. He planted his first 178 hectare vineyard in South Australia’s Clare Valley, on the banks of the Wakefield River close to the village of Auburn.
Since 1973 Wakefield wines have won more than 2000 medals and awards in major international wine competitions.
Today Wakefield is headed up by Mitchell Taylor whose philosophy blends an ‘old world’ estate mind set with ‘new world’ winemaking innovation; coupled with an almost fanatical attention to detail and obsession with quality. This results in wines of tremendous quality and style that are made with respect for the company’s family heritage. The Wakefield estate now covers 750 hectares.
The ‘Promised Land’ series of wines are fruit-driven contemporary wines made with grapes sourced from some of South Australia’s finest wine regions including Clare, Coonawarra, Limestone Coast and Padthaway.
This wine is crimson red with soft, violet tinges. On the nose are lifted aromas of plum, red berries and liquorice along with a hint of spice, cedar and vanilla characters from oak influence. A soft and round palate delivers flavours of ripe plum and red berries with a smooth and elegant finish.
Grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
